Mengesha directed the Canadian premiere of Kim's Convenience at Soulpepper Theatre. After playing a sold out run the theatre brought the show back twice to try and fulfill the demand. The play broke box office history and brought new audiences to the theatre. It has toured across Canada and off Broadway before being developed into a TV show that has enjoyed 5 seasons on CBC and Netflix. Weyni joined as one of the directors for the TV series in Season 3.
